Understanding Standings Tables

Each conference standings table shows:

  • Overall Record - Total wins and losses
  • Conference Record - W-L in conference games
  • Win Percentage - Decimal representation
  • Conference Points For/Against - Scoring in conference games
  • Streak - Current winning or losing streak
  • Remaining Games - Opponents yet to play

Conference Structure

Conferences with Divisions

Some conferences have East/West or other divisions:

  • Each division winner typically plays in championship game
  • Tiebreakers apply within divisions first
  • Cross-division records may matter

Single-Division Conferences

Conferences without divisions:

  • Top 2 teams by conference record play in championship
  • Tiebreakers determine who makes championship game
  • More common in modern conference alignment

Tiebreaker Rules

When teams have identical conference records:

  1. Head-to-Head - If two teams tied, who won their matchup?
  2. Record vs. Common Opponents - Compare records against teams both played
  3. Record vs. Division - Division game records (if applicable)
  4. Record vs. Highest-Ranked Opponent - Who beat better teams?
  5. Strength of Conference Schedule - Quality of conference opponents
  6. Total Wins - Overall record, not just conference
  7. Scoring Differential - Point differential in conference games

Note: Each conference has slightly different tiebreaker procedures
