Understanding Standings Tables
Each conference standings table shows:
- Overall Record - Total wins and losses
- Conference Record - W-L in conference games
- Win Percentage - Decimal representation
- Conference Points For/Against - Scoring in conference games
- Streak - Current winning or losing streak
- Remaining Games - Opponents yet to play
Conference Structure
Conferences with Divisions
Some conferences have East/West or other divisions:
- Each division winner typically plays in championship game
- Tiebreakers apply within divisions first
- Cross-division records may matter
Single-Division Conferences
Conferences without divisions:
- Top 2 teams by conference record play in championship
- Tiebreakers determine who makes championship game
- More common in modern conference alignment
Tiebreaker Rules
When teams have identical conference records:
- Head-to-Head - If two teams tied, who won their matchup?
- Record vs. Common Opponents - Compare records against teams both played
- Record vs. Division - Division game records (if applicable)
- Record vs. Highest-Ranked Opponent - Who beat better teams?
- Strength of Conference Schedule - Quality of conference opponents
- Total Wins - Overall record, not just conference
- Scoring Differential - Point differential in conference games
